Got a little info
for you concerning proper dance shoes. The tips are good for women and
men too!
Proper Dance Shoes Dance
shoes are no different than a carpenter using a hammer.
Proper shoes for dancing have soles which allow for spinning, turning
and gliding on the hardwood floor, i.e., dance shoes, dress shoes with leather
soles or hard rubber that don't leave behind marks on the dance floor.
Examples of improper shoes are flip flops, hiking boots, athletic shoes such
as cross trainers, running shoes, sandals without ankle straps, or shoes that
have a deep tread. The most important concern is for your knees, ankles and
body. If you have improper shoes
you'll be more likely to twist your ankle, torque your knee or even fall down
when trying to do a spin, turn or footwork.
It is also important to preserve the dance floor.
Good
dance shoes are characterized by these three properties: traction, comfort and
support. Most importantly, good dance shoes fit comfortably and securely
to your foot. Don’t settle for
dance shoes that are too tight fitting; crush your toes or your heel slides
around when you move. There is no need to compromise on your comfort for any
reason. The best advice when choosing a heel is to wear the heel that is most comfortable for you. The advantage to having a higher heel is that your weight is distributed over the ball of your foot that allows you to spin and turn with greater comfort and ease. 3 inch heels are high enough to be sexy and still not so high that your feet are on a steep downward slope (uncomfortable). Of course, that info was for the ladies. (smile) Lastly,
a tip I received from a lady in a dance store.
Buy “Moleskin” padding. This
is a soft pad with adhesive on the back that can be trimmed to put on corns,
or any place on your feet that experience rubbing (friction) and pressure from
your shoes. These pads can be
purchased at Walgreen’s, Long’s, Rite Aid and probably Walmart. Remember if you protect your knees, ankles, feet and body, you have a better chance of being a dancer with longevity (long life). Personally, I want to Step for life.
